Our class has been chipping away and discovering a broad variety of subjects. We've been going in depth about Main Idea and Details, while learning about Native American Cultures in the United States. We are able to identify historical events, and the connections relating between one another while using several different texts and/or sources. In Science, we've begun our unit on Matter, and have been learning through interactive text, videos, and our lap books we are making as a reference material for future use at home. :) Writing, we've also been working on Opinion based information, and are concluding why we should or shouldn't have zoos. At the end of this unit, students are to be able to write a strong introduction, provide convincing and supporting evidence, be able to cite specific sources, and conclude with a strong ending statement to remind readers of their topic or claim.
A few other notes of thanks and reminders: * Our class donations to the food pantry will run until December 17th, in order to bring it ideally by that weekend. Thank you for the generous donations! Please check Class Dojo for the items we have been collecting. We have at least one or two of each item now, so anything else is just super appreciated! * Please make sure your child is reading a minimum of 20 minutes every night!!! This is crucial to increase their stamina, and overall ability to keep focused on a text for an extended period of time. Ask them basic comprehension questions, (Who, what, when, where, why, and how) or ask them to summarize in 20 words or less what the text was about. Audiobooks are also a great way of keeping students engaged, if they don't want to physically read, but it keeps their mind engaged on a storyline and helps aid in oral comprehension when you continue to ask them those questions. |
